An overview of different smart apps for monitoring your health.

In the age of smartphones, it's true what they say: there's always an app for everything. Everything has been made easier because of smartphones, from alarm clocks to shopping and to-do lists, communications and social media, file storage, and even daily news, traffic and weather updates. But did you know that you can also use your phone for health and wellness tracking?

From heartbeat and blood pressure monitoring to calorie counter for your daily steps, here's an overview of the different apps in the market:

1. Yazio: Calorie Counter App

More than just a calorie counter of your everyday meals, Yazio also helps you monitor your body weight, BMI, body fat, and your daily exercise. It helps you reach your #weightgoal and even gives you an estimate on when you can achieve it in weeks.

Yazio's minimal annual fee also gives you access to premium features like Yazio COACH, which recommends a meal plan for you and gives you tips on intermittent fasting, and recipes where you can find easy-to-prepare meals for your plan.

2. Cardiio: Heart Rate App

Cardiio is a free app on iOS for monitoring your heart rate either through placing your finger over your back camera lens or through scanning your face, similar to a selfie. It uses video magnification in detecting your heart's pulse and monitors it whether you're at rest or after an activity. Cardiio even suggests a 7-minute workout for you.

It is not necessary to unlock all the features of the app as you can access all the basic features for free. The app will also remind you that the measurements taken are only for reference, and not to be used as medical advice.

3. Pocket Yoga

Want to try yoga but don't have the time to go to classes? Pocket Yoga is here for you. The app guides you through each pose and breath via detailed voice and visuals with over 200 illustrations that show you the correct posture and alignment and a dictionary that describes the benefits and techniques of various poses. You may choose from 27 sessions by experienced yoga instructors, depending on the difficulty.

Unlike the first two free apps, Pocket Yoga costs an equivalent of a premium coffee and a slice of dessert from your favorite coffee shop. Sounds cool, right?

4. Google Fit (Android) and Apple Health (iOS)

Nothing beats the pre-installed apps on your phone.

Both apps work as a default health and fitness tracker even without the use of armbands and other fitness trackers. They can calculate your steps, your walking, and running distance, monitor your weight, heart rate and blood pressure, and stores your Medical ID in case of emergency.

And since it's pre-installed, you can save your time searching and downloading it in the App Store or Google Play. Less hassle means additional time to exercise.

Just a friendly reminder: Though these apps give you immediate count of the things you want to track, it's best to remember that the data collected through these apps are only for personal reference and should not to be used for medical purposes. It is still best to consult a health professional especially in cases of serious illness.
