Sustainable foods are products from organic agriculture or natural farming.

Today, the world is in a fast-pace of transformation. Economically, the accompaniment of this is the high grossing demand for food, and it is undeniable to say that producing and finding sustainable foods are hard to amass. As we take turns in the aisles of public markets or supermarkets, it seems that we are in the crossroads, thinking of what should be inside our baskets. Hence, sustainable foods are last on the list. It would be of great help to beat the cliché.

With the emergence of food chains that make instant foods, it is opted to have the spectacles of sustainable foods. When one could realize the essence of good hands to nature, he could house a good scheme of what sustainable foods must be.

What are sustainable foods? And how are they developed?

Sustainable foods are produced from organic agriculture or natural farming. Organic farming assures that foods like meats, vegetables, and other crops are safe, healthy and free from antibiotics. Nutrition is always a priority when it comes to defining sustainable foods. Foods that have fewer processed ingredients and do not come in contact with any chemicals in the duration of growing are considered sustainable foods.

The development of sustainable foods relies on the hands of every individual. Having a continuous organic backyard gardening is a plus for those who want to engage in the sustainability of foods. Lately, the word, sustainability, has been in a hot seat. It is the most common and important word used to describe food but now is becoming to be a star that starts to lose its glow.

A closer look at food sustainability would say that it is not only about the food being served on the table but would drive into the minuscule on how the food is processed, distributed and consumed. With these underlying definitions as factors in the sustainability of foods, they make the essence more finite and concrete, however, the latter will be void if the procedures done are not carried out closely.

Meats from naturally raised stocks, fruits from trees without chemicals applied, freshly picked vegetables and root crops from the organic farmlands constitute the substantial foods, but again organic foods alone will not just complete the whole.

Nowadays, it is not only about the food that we eat. In order to have sustainable foods that would meet the compelling needs of the consumers, farming should meet the standards of biodiversity. This will allow the natural resources to maintain the balance in the ecosystem that is a factor in the development of sustainability of foods and resources. Sustainable foods, in general, depend on how humans handle the environment and in keeping the balance of the ecosystem.

In recent studies conducted by Morshedi L. (2017), Organic farming has the lead role in maintaining food security. Thus, this only means the sustainability depends on the greatness of how we value sustainable agriculture.
