The weather’s warming up, time to pack away your sweaters and pull out your summer dresses, yet, get ready to pay some serious attention to your skin.

Yes, we can now all feel the scorching heat of the sun. Vacation plans, summer dresses and outdoor trips are unfortunately on hold due to the pandemic. The warmth of the sun and clear blue skies make this time of the year an exciting one.

Though the hottest time in the calendar, summer keeps everyone energetic and active. Summer is one of the Earth’s seasons. During summertime, the weather becomes warmer and in some places, the heat translates to drier temperature. In some instances, the excessive temperatures and dry weather, often associated with summer, causes different bodily complications, especially in the skin.

Over time, the sun's ultraviolet (UV) light damages the fibers in the skin. It can make the skin look oily and dry. In addition, the heat can cause pores to open, where dirt and oil go into which results in acne, pimples, and blemishes on the face and other parts of the body. In some cases, it can cause skin aging and cancer. It is a must for everyone to be aware of the negative effects that summer weather and activities can have on the skin. So, aside from plotting out the activities to do, readying the skincare routine is also essential.

Is your skin ready? Try these approaches approved by dermatologists to enjoy summer at the maximum level.

Sun protection products, especially vitamin C serum and broad-spectrum sunscreens, should be part of your daily routine. It should be your summer pal. Vitamin C enables the brightening of your overall complexion and it is a powerful antioxidant, which means it helps to protect your skin from free radical damage. Meanwhile, broad-spectrum sunscreens protect the skin against UV rays. Combining these two products has been shown to be more effective at neutralizing free radical damage from sun exposure than just using sunscreen alone. Just like your favorite duo, these products work well together.

Refrain from applying too many makeup products on your face during summer. The overload of a product can clog pores. Remember that pores are open when the temperature is high. If the blocked pores get infected, acne, pimples, and other blemishes can appear. You can use a tinted moisturizer with a high SPF level if you cannot stand a day without a foundation, this is to avoid any patchy spots.

Pay attention to the lips and eye area, they are sensitive to UV rays. The skin on the lips is extremely sensitive they have a lower number of oil glands and less protective pigment than the rest of the face, which leaves them prone to dryness and irritation. Dermatologist suggests the use of lip moisturizer with sunscreen to avoid dry and chapped lips. The area around your eyes is also delicate and needs special care.  Do not forget to wear sunglasses, whenever you are stepping out in the sun.

Drinking plenty of water is vital for the skin especially during hot seasons. Without water, your skin can’t function at its best. Since the body loses a large quantity of water during summer the skin becomes dry, tight, and flaky, but it will also become even more prone to aging. Research proved that drinking water helps skin recover after a sunburn. Additionally, go for seasonal fruits and vegetables that are rich in water content, an example is a watermelon. So it is advised to hydrate your body and skin well, especially during the hot, summer days. Beauty and skincare go hand in hand, especially for those who want to show off their best with confidence in the fast-approaching summer. So, just in time for the warmer weather, it does not take long to start treating your skin with kindness and in return. Softness and beauty will be yours to show off. A little effort will go along way and the glow will show! Summer provides opportunities to have fun and enjoy one’s self. However, special care should be taken to avoid unnecessary mishaps that might taint the warmth of summer for you.
