Stay healthy and thrive even in the rainy season. Read on for some practical tips on how to steer clear of the common diseases brought about by the monsoon.

After those rocketing temperatures last summer, here we come to the season of downpours. Indeed, a much needed time for rejuvenation and recovery from the extreme heat. As the weather gets exceptionally cool, however, certain illnesses like cold, cough, and flu become frequent. It is therefore essential to pay special attention to your general health and immunity.

Steer clear of the common diseases that are easily triggered by intermittent showers. Here are a few tips:

Eat Healthy & Stay Hydrated

To get rid of most illnesses, get into improving your eating habits. Opt for healthier choices like seasonal fruits and vegetables, hot beverages over cold ones, and home-cooked meals. It is also vital to stay  hydrated and to prevent contracting water-borne diseases. Make sure to drink only purified water.

 Exercise

Don’t let the wet and slippery pathways and outdoor spaces stop you from getting your daily dose of  exercise. If hitting the gym proves inconvenient, doing some light exercise and stretching or a little yoga at home can be great alternatives.

Bone and joint aches tend to get more bothersome during the cold weather. Other conditions like  rheumatism and arthritis can also become more prevalent. Strengthen your bones and ensure you stay flexible and strong by doing exercises regularly. This will prevent unnecessary pain and help boost immunity to help you fight against illnesses.

Increase Vitamin C Intake

Whether from fresh fruits or by taking supplements, make sure you level up your vitamin C intake for your immune system to combat the odds of this cold and flu season. It may seem trivial, but having a proper dose of vitamin C can mean the difference between enjoying the rainy days or being miserable during this season.

Maintain Hygiene & Use Repellents

At home or at work, make sure you keep your area clear of mosquitoes and other insects by using appropriate repellents. For indoors, it’s great to use liquid vaporizers or electric plug-ins; mosquito coils, on the other hand, are more suitable for outdoor spaces like gardens or balconies. Insect repellent spray or lotion would also be a great option for protection when heading out. Furthermore, make sure to empty your trash bins regularly and drain stagnant water from your surroundings.

Make the rainy season still vibrant and full of life! Maintain proper care of your health and you'll be thankful you did.
